Did the major networks carry McCain's speech from Louisiana last night? If not, it was a pro-Republican move on their part. The guy had a lot to say but would have put the Energizer bunny to sleep. It was in sharp contrast to Obama's powerful delivery in Minnesota which, if he had been talking about nothing at all, would have been riveting.

McCain is in deep doo-doo if the 2008 campaign becomes a speech contest.

Lamentably, that is what politics has become. Lots of style. I am all in favor of good speakers, but when that is not backed up by substance, as it often isn't, everyone ends up in doo-doo.

Since Kennedy beat Nixon, every election has been won by the better speaker, with one or two possible exceptions.

I found it painful to watch. I think it might be better if he never has a prepared speech; he is far better at off-the-cuff ad libs. Is that redundant? I find him quite likeable and witty when he's just being himself, talking to reporters, etc. He suffers by comparison to Obama on style, so who pays attention to anything else? Roll Eyes
