Court upholds N.Y. ban on dancing in bars

• New York Supreme Court upholds 80-year-old cabaret law
• Law bans dancing in ordinary bars and restaurants in New York City
• Prohibition-era law was enacted to crack down on speakeasies
• Gotham West Coast Swing Club,, others, say ban violates free expression rights

The Court did the right thing, of course. If dancing is allowed, what could be next? Pretty soon, people would be smiling, laughing, dancing close, dancing suggestively, etc. The next thing you know, a party beaks out. People will start enjoying themselves, and we know where that leads. Noted sociologist and Deputy Sheriff Bernard Fife has pointed out that if you don't nip things like this in the bud, bigger problems are just down the road. "Nip it! Nip it! Nip it!"

Kudos to the Appellate Division of New York's Supreme Court for their wise decision.

They have all kinds of ridiculous laws on the books; few if any are ever enforced though. I wonder how many summonses have actually been issued for “illegal dancing”?

Better nip it quick otherwise it could lead to The Jets vs. The Sharks all over again. Eek

Jets vs. Sharks??? But one plays football, and the other plays hockey?? Isn't cross-sport competition (cross-sporting?) illegal in New York? (It could lead to dancing on the field ice surface of play. Better nip it now, before it is too late.)

Before the Phoenix Coyotes, there were the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL. Those were the WSS games.
