Just in: Four down, two to go Posted 1/12/2007 02:32:00 PM
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives has passed the fourth bill of the Democrats' '100 hour' six bill agenda -- legislation that requires the government to negotiate lower drug prices for prescription medications for Medicare recipients .
The bill passed 255-170.
The bill may have to undergo several changes to win enough support in the Senate. President Bush has threatened to veto the legislation as it stands now.
The '100 hour clock' now stands at 23:18:00. - CNN +++++++++++++++ The time difference is explained this way: the House has been in session for about 50 hours, but only debating the bills that the Democrats want to pass for about 24 hours. The Representatives were sworn in last thursday. (By the standard work week of the previous party holding power, that 50 hours is over 2 weeks' worth of work. The House took off last Monday to watch a football game, at the request of one of the Representatives. )
So, even if one goes by the quicker clock, Pelosi has accomplished 4 of the 6 goals in half the time she allotted to do so.
