He was born in Romania, immigrated to Israel in 1978 and moved to Virginia in 1985. “My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee,” his son Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. “Students started opening windows and jumping out.” * G.V. Loganathan, 51, an Indian-born lecturer at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, his brother G.V. Palanivel told the NDTV news channel in India.
