Wow! I don't know too much about this Christopher Hitchens guy, but I'm starting to like him. He was on Hannity & Colmes discussing Falwell again. Hitchens Brutally Eulogizes Falwell on Hannity & Colmes At the very end he says something like - "If you gave Falwell an enema he could be buried in a matchbox". OMG!! Crooks & Liars

Don't get too attached to Hitchens. He'll tick you off sooner or later.
Hitchens often says things very bluntly yet eloquently (I'm not necessarily including that interview in this, I haven't seen it). When you agree with him, that makes him seem very intelligent. Unfortunately, he also holds some rather asinine views, which he states with the same blunt eloquence.

Yes, I wonder though if it's a fair supposition to suggest that - segregationists becoming thin on the ground and unlikely to ever hold the levers of power - Falwell simply transferred his tendency to bully minorities onto other targets. Just conjecture of course.
I've been reading some of what he wrote and said; I wonder also if - despite obviously having some flair for politics - Falwell just wasn't very bright. Or is it (this is like the Bush conundrum) that he felt the people he was addressing aren't very bright?
