I heard on TV briefly from some U.S. military type that Shia in mid-Iraq are giving info to the U.S. troops and that Sunni in Western Iraq are physically fighting the al-Qaeda militants there.

1. Is this true?
2. Would Iraqis be helping themselves if, as also reported, the al-Qaeda militants did not run out of money?
3. Anyway, what kind of nondemocratic nations tend to embrace democracy for what reasons?
