'US Vice-President Dick Cheney has repeated his assertion that the al-Qaeda network had links with Iraq before the US-led invasion of 2003.
Mr Cheney told a US radio show: "They were present before we invaded Iraq."
Hours earlier, a declassified Pentagon report said information obtained from Iraq's former leader Saddam Hussein had confirmed they had no strong ties...
...Mr Cheney, in an interview with conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, insisted there had been a link between Saddam Hussein's regime and the al-Qaeda terror group.
He said former al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had been leading the network's operations in the country before the 2003 US-led invasion.'news.bbc.co.uk
Of course, it's half-true. There were al Qaeda people in Iraq before the invasion. They were operating from one of the no-fly zones, and pretty much outside Hussein's control. It's true that al Qaeda was in Iraq before the invasion, in the same sense that it's true that al Qaeda was in the UK or Spain before the invasion.
The question is, who does Cheney think will accept what he says? Why is he saying it? Is it desperation, delusion or does he think people still believe the Bush administration on Iraq?

Rush Limbaugh's audience will accept Cheney's statements at face value.
Why is he saying such things, though? The events of the last few years have got to have had some impact on his mental state. Delusional, paranoid - who knows?

'...Despite this evidence and a broad consensus within the U.S. intelligence community, Cheney keeps alive his discredited claims about a pre-war al-Qaeda role under Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Possibly, the Vice President believes that the right-wing media echo chamber is so influential that the sheer repetition of these falsehoods can solidify support for the administration’s position regardless of the facts...'Bush/Cheney Still Lie with Abandon
Have any of you noticed that every time that Chris Matthews pronounces Dick Cheney's name ,he never pronounces it "Chainy",,instead he always calls him "Sheenie".
This was a term of derision used back in the 1930's to describe a Jewish junk peddler.
I'm surprised that some of you politically -correct people haven't picked up on this...or have you ???
