I've a strange feeling that they may have done, Bedstor (If the cost of the crude oil rises it produces a bigger percentage increase in pump price there than here, because most of our pump price is tax but of theirs it isn't ) Our fuel must be dear if a biker notices! How many miles does a motorbike do to the gallon ? It's just a stunt by some of the bikers

Fred The average "Big" bike does 44-45mpg and the tanks about 3 gallons max Giving 120 130 miles before you need Reserve which may just get you 20 miles so long as you are easy on the throttle The old Wild 2 stroke engines Were even crazier with their comsumption especially when they were "tuned" Any power Gained Pays back in increased Petrol consumption SO The stock Model whould do 40 mpg if gently ridden and plunge to 30 Mpg if hammered...But tune it up and its 35mpg average and less than 25 mpg if ridden silly But some bikes had good consumption I had the use of a Suzuki 250cc Trail bike (for a short time) and I'm sure it did 50 Mpg Easily .I said to the person who loaned me the bike I'd sure like this bike instead of the 500cc Honda (that averaged 50 mpg too) I suspect a lot of road users do trawl for Cheap fuel now Texaco used to be the Cheapest but they are up there with the dear brands Cbeap 1 day , in the Top 3 the Next

As a Uk professional would term it DG its all dependent on the "Checks and Balances" of the situation Yes, the 30% is there but the Price of Fuel on the US Family Budget is disproportionate to the same earner in the UK and unlike the US Many Taxes are paid over the Counter . The Most Misleading in My Book being "Value Added Tax" Better known as VAT You be surprised how many times that is charged between sourced Goods to the Time you get it Home ...And Somehow You pay for "advice" Lo and Behold there is a VAT Charge glaring back at you on the receipt and Some people charge the Full amount regardless of the tariff this is 17.5% They feign Ignorance if challenged But their bank account looks a bit fuller (at tax returns time) VAT replaced the old Purchase Tax which was only paid on luxury Goods such as cars, and it came as part of the sign up Deal when we joined the Common Market(in the 70's) And I dont know if our American Friends recall who lumbered us with it A Guy called Anthony Barber (Conservative Party) Well forgotten But his Legacy is still with us and almost swallowed everything..And He said it would be simple to work(1971)...Yeah and DG is going to win the Powerball! Read this from 2005 www.taxationweb.co.uk/news/news.php?id=68 Your taxation is easy compared to this lead weight sucking up funds for the Government and Eurocrats ..It will cross the Pond in some shape or form soon (May not be labelled as such but the words "Simplified (Federal?)sales Tax" to replace your Local tax will be seen .Looks fine for the first few months, then the Prices Jack up Smartly ...Don't say you were warned!

Bedstor, when was purchase tax 'only paid on luxury goods'? My memory is that it was charged on everything, except essentials such as food and children's clothing. It was charged at different rates according to what the goods were (and very complicated it was). There was a 'luxury goods' tax rate, for a while. VAT is also not chargeable on certain goods and services.

I'm too young to remember what the Levy rate was Fred. And B) As to what it was added to As for the 0 % rated VAT Items Sure they exist but they are subject to strict specifications (remember the Poll Tax Arguments?) who was affected and How they could (in Theory) get out of the Trap such as turning your Home into a Monastry Don't Laugh , that was deadly serious...They had to go back and Rethink!and now the UK is still Lumbered with a wieldy "Council Tax" Banding System ...Latest Idea based on the that is the Road Fund Tax has been reformulated into something similar with Hikes all across The range of Vehicles Unless you drive something like an Electric Milk float which is Zero rated Petty Bureaucracy dead? Live here and the petty Form Filling regulation Mountain Grows before your eyes (Is another form of Political Correctness!) Went down sharply when the "Campaign for Plain English" Put a halt to the Original Mountain for a few years(went Global) www.plainenglish.co.uk But like a bad smell it has returned(with a Vengeance) through another door and is making up for lost time

Kane? dg Have you ever seen any Clips of the British Big Brother and You can't miss the Voice-over guy Who speaks in a Monotone Like the Speaking Clock in a full Geordie accent and I rate him on my all time 5 most irritating Voices on TV Has been doing it for 10 years solid and even does continuity announcments in the same tone for Channel 4! Is the most miserable sounding person I know (and never seen Him in the flesh...do we want to ?) And I heard today that they are under contract to make another 2 Years So we have to stand the Likes of Shouty DaVeeena!! and The Miserable clockwatcher and the wannabes till 2010 www.marcusbentley.com/audio.htmlHere are some better sounding Clips He's made I think the North American show will Follow suit (It's all money/Controversy that ensures keeping this on screen) You know where I will be? Surfing or posting here

That North East man who does the announcements on Big Brother is called Marcus ? Never knew they were so classical up there ! No wonder he left if he was christened with a name like that It has to be a professional 'stage' name. PS the interviewer on Bedstor's audio clip sounds to be originally from Liverpool. The rest are definitely Mancunian enough The first man makes reference to the Isle of Man (if you can make that out)It's an island where an annual motorbike race takes place. The next is almost incomprehensible but is referring to the 'gaffer' paying a lot. The 'gaffer' is his boss.
