No more than 55% of those of voting age vote. The difference is not large - removing the estimated 5 million inelligible because of felony convictions gives about 57% in 2004. Are there others who are inelligible? Not that 57% is significantly better. I will say, though, that this is a primary, and some 23% of California's registered voters are not Democrats or Republicans.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Methos: The reason that there are 23% registered voters who are neither Democrats or Republicans is because we are fed up with both parties because they are both in the pocket of the lobbyists. Neither party gives a damn about anything except lining their own pockets. Neither party cares about those who have elected them. They have only one fear ...the fear that they will not be re=elected. hippolips

I agree, with you there. I wasn't trying to slight those people who aren't registered Democrats or Republicans (after all, I'm one of them, though not in CA). I was just noting that that some of the 75% (or 72%, minus as yet unreceived absentee ballots, according to what I have read elsewhere) who didn't vote couldn't because they were not part of a party that was having primaries. I don't know what the exact number would be, though, because I know that at least one of the minor parties did have a primary as well. 23% would be an upper bound, though.

I did vote, My better half failed to send in the absentee ballot on time and went down to the old polling place to find a big sign stating that since the number of registered voters served by that polling station was only 200 people, that station would not be open and that it is suggested to vote absentee. Not a single warning was sent out prior to this? The local Media didn't say anything - so what gives? But then this wasn’t a major election either, no big offices being voted for. Republicans got to decide which republican they wanted running, Democrats got to decide which democrat they waned to vote and we of the Third Parties got to Vote for Mickey Mouse. No big turn out means no big issues or real votes to be had. And lets face it, Mickey Mouse won’t be governor come the real election – most likely it will be a democrat or a republican
