'If proof were really needed of the bloodbath that Iraq has come to represent for occupying British forces, then May 2006 has delivered it. The month which ends today has been the bloodiest for Britain since Iraq was occupied three years ago, leaving 11 Britons dead, many injured and the calls for withdrawal more urgent than ever before.
As the Defence Secretary, Des Browne, admitted yesterday that the "spike " in insurgent violence was a source of "major concern," two former defence ministers warned that withdrawal was imperative amid the signs of deepening chaos.' news.independent.co.uk
We often hear descriptions like 'temporary upsurge' of violence in Iraq. Is the pattern actually of temporary upsurges and "spikes" - or is it a more consistent deterioration into chaos?
Is the new Iraqi government getting things under control, or are things getting worse?

According to what I read in the newspaper everyday, it would appear that things are getting worse. I believe, as with most anything, as patience wears thin, things get worse. If there is control by the Iraqi government, I'm not hearing much about it. Every so often, there's a little tidbit of info about improvement, but the 'worse' always outweighs such tidbit. There is always the chance that we are not hearing the full story though. From what we see and read, it's definitely getting worse. More consistent than spike!!
