OK, time to listen, because this will be on the Final Exam. It's a 6 part question.
Will Scooter Libby win a new trial? Will he win an appeal? How many years will he be sentenced to? How many will he serve? Will bush pardon him? Will Scooter roll over on his former bosses to get a lighter sentence?
My opinion - His appeal drags out long enough so that he only serves 14 months before bush pardons him in December 2007 or January 2008.

You're right, Frank. My mind was thinking 2008 and 2009, but my fingers typed 2007 and 2008. @ self ********** "As a group, politicians are really disgusting." - Dwight
"These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group of people I‘ve ever seen." - John Kerry, referring to his 2004 opponent and his opponent's campaign team
Considering the Libby trial, the Duke Cunningham trial, the Ney trial, the Abramoff trial, the upcoming DeLay trial, the Safavian trial, the Tony Rudy (former Delay aide) trial, the Foley scandal, the Katrina response, the cherry-picked evidence, and a few other trials, along with a sea of other examples, Kerry wasn't too far off, it appears. (This is not to say that the Dems haven't had their share of crooks and liars, but, as Kerry implied, these guys take it to new depths.
I am sure that some here will remember how saying that taxes needed to be raised seriously damaged Mike Dukakis' chance at the White House. His opponent became famous for his "Read my lips. No new taxes" line. Of course, he raised taxes, in his first year, too, I think. At least the father had the stones to do what was needed and raise taxes.

I don't know about that. All Libby did was obstruct justice, lie to a grand jury and the FBI, and cover up for some others. The last few civilians to get a medal are actually responsible for lying to get the US in a war, mis-planning the war, mis-managing the war, destroying what was left of Iraq's economy, squandering a few billion dollars, and getting tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of people killed. Libby just isn't in their league.

Hate to nitpick, but aren't the more than 21 months from now 'til the end of December, 2008? ---------------------------------------------- "If convicted, the crimes charged in the indictment carry the following maximum penalties on each count: obstruction of justice - 10 years in prison, and making false statements and perjury -5 years in prison, and each count carries a maximum fine of $250,000, making the maximum penalty for conviction on all counts 30 years in prison and a $1.25 million fine. Note, however, that the Court would determine the appropriate sentence to be imposed."
Source ------------------------------------------------------------- My opinion? He wins a new trial, pays $250,000, gets five years, spends a max of one at a country club while patiently waiting on the pardon he knows is coming.
