Hi Gang:

Did Hillary miscalculate in Iowa???

Iowa has a 95% White population,so the 5% minority didn't make the difference..

I think that Hillary assumed that all of the women would vote for her just because she's a woman.

I think a lot of women just don't like Hillary.

I also think that Oprah's influence on all women was under estimated.

Obama will have a harder time in New Hampshire where the population is 96% White.

But he will rebound in South Carolina.

Those are my opinions...what are yours???

I only hope that this is the beginning of a downhill slide that will put her out of the race. Wink

Let's see how she and Obama perform in the debates.Obama is quite the best speaker that you could ever hope to hear, but how good is he going to be if he's pressured about matters like foreign policy or taxation ? Surely Mrs Clinton must be able to prove her much vaunted 'experience' by showing that she is in full command of her brief.

You've no idea what fun it is to be a politically minded foreigner watching all this from thousands of miles away. We get all the fun without any of the responsibility for deciding anything Smile (Do you think, as a favour, you could keep it going until, say, November? I know that's a lot to ask, when a general election takes only thirty days from start to finish, and selecting a candidate should take only days, but, if you could, it would take our minds off the British Summer Smile Wink)

Meanwhile, it's interesting already Smile Now for Tuesday and New Hampshire. The Times (London)says that Obama has initially registered a 10 per cent lead over Clinton there. Pundits (on Fox News: we right wingers stick together Wink) say that Clinton will win there, nonetheless. Hmm. What is interesting is that New Hampshire appears to have just the kind of electorate that Obama won over to his cause in Iowa. Not that the two states have similar electorates overall, but Obama has shown that he appeals to the young and to undecided voters and got them out in vast numbers in Iowa, these being people who were not expected to turn out at all. That sounds to be an appeal which Obama has and Hillary Clinton doesn't and which is universal, rather than local . New Hampshire reportedly has many more voters who are 'independents' than Iowa had. Fun, ain't it?

"...but Obama has shown that he appeals to the young and to undecided voters and got them out in vast numbers in Iowa, these being people who were not expected to turn out at all."

The reason these people are "not expected to turn out at all" is that they have a reputation for failing to vote in elections. They have short attention spans as compared to the reliable older voters who almost NEVER fail to exercise their civic duties. I believe that the difference will become more evident in subsequent primaries that Obama's resume is rather skimpy as compared to Hillary's.IMHO.

Hi Frank:

Hillary's repeated claim of 35 years of experience is a lie!

During Bill Clinton's 8 years as President,Hillary was his wife[not an elected office].

During Bill's years as Governor,Hillary was his wife[Also not an elected office].

Hillary's actual experience is 7 years as a Senator from New York[her actual years of experience].

So her claim of 35 years of experience is a flat out lie!

OK Hippolips, but you must remember that she's taken tea with lots of foreigners ( some of them quite important) while they were speaking to her husband and she to their wives WinkWho knows, but perhaps she eavesdropped.Perhaps she discussed what he'd been doing and deciding, as pillowtalk. Bet Obama can't claim any of that Big Grin.

Lying seems to be a Clinton legacy.

Here's the current (Jan 6th) state of the Times of London online poll for New Hampshire. This is how Times readers judge the candidates, each choosing a candidate from each side:

FOR:

Clinton: 22.6%
Obama : 56.1%
Others: no significant percentage

This may not be 100% sound if it's of the same value as the poll for Republicans:

FOR

Ron Paul: 53.7%
McCain : 19.2%
Giuliani: 10.4%
Others : no significant percentage

Methinks that Times readers worldwide are Democrat sympathisers with a sense of humour ! Big Grin

Getting back to the original question, "Did Hillary miscalculate???"

Not necessarily a miscalculation by Hillary. After all the media & the polls considered her a sho-in for the nomination. And now the real events are taking place, reality is turning into a different story.

It makes my point that public opinion polls don't mean a damn thing. Its the results from the real elections are what counts.

Not only is Obama wondering "What the Hell happened ?", but you can bet Hillary is doing a Sally Field and saying "You like me ! You really like me !".

It was strange to watch the morning news before New Hampshire and hear the pundits writing Hillary off, pretty much conceding the Obama bandwagon was on a roll. This is going to be a fun race to watch

Go Hillary, Go !

Exactly! Using Hillary's logic, I should be able to perform operations since my father was a surgeon and I lived with him for twenty years. Would you like your kidney removed?

Chris Rock, who is playing in Britain at present, has a nice line on Hillary's 'experience' argument: "I've been married 10 years; if my wife came onstage now, y'all would not laugh?" Wink
