The decision to run for President...Was it worth it???

To clarify what I am asking, no I am not being critical. Considering the episode with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, looking back on it, I feel he really did try to handle the situation with dignity. But the Rev Wright came back & kept pushing, Barack Obama had little choice but to disown Jeremiah Wright.

Episode #2. Rev Michael Pfleger. Another good friend of Barack Obama. His recent sermon, if you want to call it that, re-lit the fire again. Because it certainly didn't help out Obama at all.

So now Barack Obama has resigned his membership at the Trinity United Church of Christ, a decision I'm sure he thought long & hard on. As I recall when Jeremiah Wright retired, his replacement was also very "colorful" in the delivery of his sermons.

I would have to wonder if any other person who has been a candidate for President has ever had this much personal sacrifices during a campaign... Losing two long time friends & leaving behind a church membership of twenty years is not easy...

I was thinking about the same thing earlier, when I saw the breaking news. (Good Lord! Jazz, and now this? LR and DG, agreeing??? Eek) The only one I can think of that had anything close to this was Nixon in 68. His wife was most definitely against it, and they really never had the same marriage after he was elected. So, in a sense, Nixon gave up more. But, with few exceptions, I think that most who run for the office are driven to it almost as a need to prove, even if to themselves, that they can. I've known a few fighter pilots, really good boxers, and 2 or 3 wrestlers of international caliber. All were Alpha+ males. (So were a few guys that I knew that none of these guys would even think about arguing with. Maybe that is what it takes to win.

I tend to think most wives of Presidential candidates don't care for the idea. But being the fine ladies they are, they make the sacrifice for their husband.

I would think in Barack Obama's case, I doubt he anticipated the problems it would cause. Most candidates church associations are casually mentioned in the course of the campaign but generally not put under such scrutiny. In Obama's case he has lost two close friends and a church in his campaign for the White House. This is not a typical ocurrance in most Presidential campaigns.

I wonder why he let it become a problem. Wright wasn't running for president, so just ignore the critics. I doubt if there's anyone that agrees with everything that their pastor says. I don't, but since I have my own mind and commonsense, I wouldn't give a **** what the critics said.

Ignoring the critics is one thing. But ignoring his team of advisors, the very people who help him get to where he's at now, he might feel it is not in his best interest to blow them off.

Obama is suffering more and more from foot in mouth disease. Just at a time when greater scrutiny in falling on him. The media made him, the media will take him down. Just watch.
