Inglis said he considers himself a part of the “religious right” and can't identify with a new group that has emerged within the party that he called the “hard right.”

“I'm concerned about abortion,” Inglis said. “It's very much a concern to me. The hard right really doesn't care about abortion. They just want you, government, out of their pocketbook, by golly.”

Inglis said “hard-right” activists have told him that they are willing to let people without health insurance “die on the steps of the hospital” to make a point about the problem of “free riders.”

“As a religious right guy, I'm thinking there was a guy named Jesus who had some things to say about these kinds of concepts,” Inglis said. “And I don't want to live in a society that lets a few test cases die on the steps of the hospital. I can't go there.” - Greenville Times

Inglis was first elected in 1992. One would think that, in 17 years, he might have noticed those guys at the meetings before now. I also wonder how many will notice that the South Carolina Republican has essentially validated what a Democrat said about the Republican plan for health care.

How soon before Limbaugh starts on this guy, saying that he's not really a Republican?

Greenville SC's paper is called the Greenville News (The Times are in Greenville, NC, many miles distant).

This quotation:

"Inglis said 'hard-right' activists have told him that they are willing to let people without health insurance 'die on the steps of the hospital' to make a point about the problem of 'free riders.'"

is particularly vulgar and is patently absurd for a conservative. It sounds like Inglis is mixing quotes with Alan Grayson or has taken something far out of context.

I wonder if he would be so kind as to tell us the names of all of the activists who have told him that. Apparently there is more than one. This looks like a bunch of B.S. to me (but I have been wrong before!).

Thanks for correcting my mistake, Fuse.

It appears that I am late in recognizing the RINO hunt. Inglis has already been targeted.

But that doesn't seem to bother the crowd back in South Carolina. Outside the Fuddruckers in Greenville, a toilet is bolted to the back of Harry Kibbler's pickup truck, with what appears to be a man upside down in the bowl. Bill Raish points at it: "It looks like Bob Inglis going down the commode," he says.

Kibbler says it's political theater — with a serious message about Congress. In 2010, he says, "There's a lot of folks that need to be replaced. It's not just Bob. This is the first shot of the RINO hunt." - http://www.npr.org/templates/s...p?storyId=113096597, Sept. 23, 2009

I've spent a lot of time in Greenville. My ex is from Greenville and my kids were raised there. For someone to risk the finish on his pickup truck to make a political statement is serious business.

That is the district where Senator Jim DeMint was once the Congressman. It is hard core Republican. Quite frankly, I thought Inglis was conservative but that is probably because I think everyone who wins in the upstate of South Carolina is conservative.

Some quotes need to stand alone. Very good, Fuse!

A question for Coldfuse concerning South Carolina: I have often wondered why South Carolina is so conservative. Given the fact that SC is lower in almost every health category (see North Vrs. South Carolina ) I wonder why seemingly all the politicians seem to oppose health care reform and other progressive measure aimed at helping the average US citizen. Any thoughts on this?
