Hi Gang:

Here's one for all of you military experts:

When will we[the American people] know when the Surge in Iraq is over ???

We know when it started ,but how will we know that the Surge is over???

Will Bush tell us or will the Democrats???

Or when our non biased Media tell us???

When???

Just curious

I'd like to see bush land in Baghdad under a "Mission Accomplished" banner. (I understand that he has one, only used once.)

Never mind when it'll be over, there's little clarity about when it started.

I think the problem is that it was supposed to start with a big success story, and we're still waiting.

Rest assured that the Democrats will keep you informed, but will the information be correct?

Saddam has WMDs and is a threat to the world

OR

Saddam has an alQeada connection

OR

The United States does not torture

OR

Jessica Lynch deserves the Bronze Star for her metitorius and heroic action in the face of the enemy

OR

I'm a Uniter not a Divider

OR

There are no secret CIA prisons

OR

Well, I'm not a crook (Oops! Wrong disgraced US President. Sorry.)

Hi NN:

Never mind when it'll be over ?????

With over 3,000 American dead, I do mind,I mind a great deal.

I'm much more concerned about getting us out of Iraq ,than spending hours placing the blame for how we got there in the first place.

Democrats were elected to get us out... not farting around talking about how we got in Iraq.

Sorry, hippo. It was a figure of speech, but I guess not a very good choice:

"There's little clarity about when it started, let alone when it'll be over."

How's that?

(Winter? In 'current events'? Yes, it's the wrong forum.)

Maybe when George W. Hitler and his neo-Nazis are out of office!

Don't bother asking the question again until that time.

Hi Val:

Who elected you to be "The Decider" ????

When you appoint yourself to determine who can and cannot ask questions, that sounds like the stuff Hitler used to do.

As long as Americans continue to die in Iraq,I will continue to ask questions like these.

Have a Happy Easter,Val.

Oh no.. you are in the right forum Kendor..I think you were talking about unusually long and harsh winters?
See:
"Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York,
And all the clouds that loured upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried
Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths
Our bruised arms hung up for monuments
Our stern alarums changed to merry meetings
Our dreadful marches to delightful measures..."
Shakespeare

Winters are getting longer..but Republicans assure themselves that all will be well in the end in Iraq, and the long winter of war was always justified.
Democrats are hopeful that winter will be over after the next election.

Either way, the weather is unseasonably harsh; particularly for the US troops in Iraq, who are wondering when they can come home Wink

When the surge will be over is anybody's guess. But what I would like to know is "How long can it continue to be called a SURGE?" When there are no remaining reserves to intervene in this "civil war/sectarian disharmony" and the U.S military is beyond repair?

Apparantly, you misunderstood my meaning. Either that, or you're just being anal. Perhaps I should have said, "Asking the question again before Bush is out of office would be a waste of time." I say this because I know it won't happen until after that time. Why? Because there's still oil to move, resources to steal, and money to be made, of course! Do you think when they discover a horde of gold or precious gems, that they're just going to take a little, go Home and leave the rest? lol! Please! They're not leaving until the wells run dry or unless they have no choice!

Good for you! I encourage you to do so! Ask until you're blue in the face, dear! But, you're never going to get an answer more honest than mine, though. I guarantee it!

It's not really a 'surge' in any case. It's not big enough. Apparently, it's not even the military's idea:

'Bush's latest revisionist history relates to his claim that his "surge" of higher troop levels in Iraq represented the will of the military commanders and that politicians shouldn't override battlefield judgments.

The American people "don't want politicians in Washington telling our generals how to fight a war," Bush said at a press briefing on April 3, scolding congressional Democrats for seeking a gradual withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq.

But it was Bush in December and January who rebuffed the judgment of the Pentagon brass and U.S. field commanders when they opposed his plan for expanding the size of the U.S. military contingent in Iraq.

During a classified briefing at the Pentagon in December, Bush reportedly made clear to the brass that he had no interest in finding a way out of Iraq. Gen. James T. Conway, the Marine commandant, described Bush's message as "What I want to hear for you is how we're going to win, not how we're going to leave."

Bush began warming to a "surge" strategy that was pushed by neoconservative scholar Frederick Kagan and Bush's hard-line White House strategists. That was countered by a Pentagon leak revealing that the Joint Chiefs of Staff opposed an escalation because they doubted it could achieve any lasting strategic objective.

Bush, who has always insisted that he listens to his generals on military matters such as troop levels, reacted to their resistance to the "surge" with a purge. He pushed out Gen. John Abizaid and Gen. George Casey, the two top field commanders, and promoted other officers who would bend to White House political demands.'

Because it hasn't met with much success - as predicted - we may never hear that the surge is over. Instead, some new PR gimmick will be introduced to distract the gullible.
