Bob, I know you don't do foreign sports ie Cricket ...but check out the name Bob Woolmer on the News sites The page "hit count" is rising like mad
quote:
Pakistan's national cricket coach, Bob Woolmer, who was found dead in his hotel room on Sunday morning, was strangled

and to complicate matters there were allegations of match fixing by Asian betting Syndicates with Mafia style connections
and the Pakistan team are very strong..Yet they lost to Ireland who are minor league players Eek think of a Major league baseball team going down to a sunday league side thats how bad it was Frown
and somepody posted the unexplained suspicious aircrash with Hansie Cronje who was flying alone a few years ago this was also linked to organised crime...said it was pilot error (in poor visibility) but were the flight instruments tampered with by somebody?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansie_Cronje <<<scroll dowm this page to the Matchfixing section Plane crash info follows this
and Woolmers death raises new questions daily , made a full page article in the Uk papers despite the English Cricket team makimg its own headlines the vice captain Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was found drunk in charge of a pedalo early in the morning Red Face...was suspended for a game and lost the Honor Full story here Don't know what to do about this story, Laugh or be angry at him for letting the side down ! Roll Eyes
Both stories have overshadowed the Tournament...Expect the Australians to win by the way

No, there aren't many of us here who seem to follow cricket, but this is clearly Front-Page news.
Because the tournament is taking place in the West Indies, I'm able to watch most of the games on live television due to the time difference with Francen and I saw Bob Woolmer on screen as he was watching his team lose to Ireland the other day. I was as shocked as everyone else when the story of his death broke the next morning and truly amazed now to hear that he was strnagled and didn't die of natural causes after all. I remember when he used to open the batting for England way back when and he always seemed such a decent bloke, which makes it worse somehow. RIP.

Pakistan cricket in the past 12 months have really really been in the headlines, but for the wrong reasons. It is very sad that Bob Woolmer was murdered and that too when he just finished his contract. I hope the culprits are found regardless of who they are.

Tell me bik, seeing as you're actually in Pakistan, is this Pakistani TV channel that's breaking all the exclusive news before the Jamaican police have revealed details a quality source? I mean, all this talk of betting syndicates and an arrest and the fact that a copy of the manuscript of his new book is missing does seem to be coming out of Pakistan and not Kingston, Jamaica, doesn't it? Is it just good guesswork and speculation or based on hard facts and sources in-the-know?

I am unfortuntely not near Pkistan these days but infact near Jamaica Smile. So only know what comes on cricketinfo, BBC.... I have not talked to any of my friends in Pakistan but will do so on Saturday and ask them is what are the sentiments over there.
The missing book part was told my Pakistan Cricket media manager who says he was told by Bob himself. So it should be considered a fact. If its related to the murder or not is still not known.

Mihir Bose, sports correspondent, speaking on the BBC this morning, discounted the book theory.Bob Woolmer had written an autobiography which covered the time when there was match- fixing involving South Africa. Although Bob Woolmer was close to those events he did not mention the scandal once Wink And, said Mihir Bose, the ghostwriter for the forthcoming book has received 10,000 words for it and not one of them has referred to gambling or match-fixing so it seems reasonable to think that Mr Woolmer would have been quiet again. Of course, a murderer might not be aware of that or might think that Woolmer would speak privately to others Frown

So the loss of Pakistan cricket team may have given the coach a shock and added to his health problems... but atleast it was not a murder.
