There's lots more to emerge. Every day brings more detail, none of it helpful to the sons. After the 'death' one of the couples' two adjacent houses was gifted to one son. One son wired most of the proceeds of the other property to Panama, to a Panamian bank account, only recently. The father was in Panama last year, with the mother, photographed with a land agent. The agent says that the two wanted to then take a house or flat prior to finding and buying a more important property such as a farm . The father was there again, visiting the mother, only six months ago.
The police were already investigating well before the father presented himself. There had been reportings of the father being sighted in the street near the family properties. A workmate of the mother had reported that she believed the father alive because she'd overheard telephone conversations of the mother, apparently to him. The police then investigated the finances and were on the Panama trail. The incriminating photo itself was found by a nosey neighbour typing the couples' first names plus Panama into Google pictures (!)
The 'death' , of course, meant that any mortgages on any properties were paid off by the endowment policies and the 'widow' would receive them free of encumbrances (she also, as widow, gets them free of any inheritance or other tax)
The above suggests that the police will want to interrogate the sons

And, no surprise, the police have revealed that the 'amnesiac' father is now beginning to remember something of what he has been doing and where. It would have been very good amnesia to cut in within moments of his saving himself from drowning . Imagine, he is alive, his wife has reported him missing that same night, there is a full scale sea and air hunt for him, it's all over the news that he's feared drowned and he doesn't go straight home or to the police and say 'Here I am'. Perhaps he forgot then that he'd not drowned !
That's the trouble with amnesia: at best it can explain why you can't remember now but it can't explain why you did what you did. (The murderer Gunther Podola pleaded amnesia, claiming that he could not conduct a defence and get a fair trial when not remembering. He was hanged.
