I need some help with career choices involving music.
My boyfriend is young, is enrolled in college and hates it. he's always hated it. He'd rather be playing guitar. This isn't irrational, either--like he really wants to play music. So, we were thinking maybe incorporating music into a career that is stable--like teaching music. No, he doesn't want to do that. He's really interested in building guitars, and/or fixing them. but how do you get into that? we know someone who is a guitar tech and also plays music on the side at some local places--my boyfriend is into that, too, but he can't sing and play guitar at the same time. he also hates the sound of his own voice. he just need some guidance--anyone got some i can relay?

Well, I'm not sure about how to find work as a guitar tech or guitar builder, but would he like working at a music store? The kind of places that sell guitars and sheet music and might work on guitars for people. Also he might look around for ads for bands who are looking for a guitar player or a second guitar player. He doesn't have to sing and play guitar at the same time.
