I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this and I apologize if its not but I have a question about something that happened at the restaurant I work at.

An employee mistakenly counted $200 in cash as $300 and it wasn't realized until the customer had left. The manager "covered" the $100 loss by taking it from the charge tips for the night. This seems very shady, if not illegal. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's very arbitrary and (in Canada) illegal. It's like charging a truck driver for a breakdown on the road. In your state it is illegal to make any deduction from your pay without advance notice.
Here is where to inquire.

If some workers are reluctant to sign a complaint, fearing the leaders will be fired, have them sign in 'circular' fashion. Cool
