Hi! I have two or three questions about hamsters: Is there a way to tell or guess how old a hamster is when you are choosing one? If so, what is it? Also, when choosing a hamster, is it possible to tell if a female is pregnant? If so, how do you do that? I will appreciate any answers I get. I can't find this information in the books that I've seen. Thank you!

To be absolutely sure of the age of a hamster you will have to aquire your hamster from a reliable breeder or pet store, which will have the recorded the dates that their hamsters were born. You will want to get a hamster when it is between four and seven weeks old because they will be easier to tame when they're still young. It is difficult to tell if a hamster is pregnant until 2-3 days before she gives birth. Her nipples will be very noticeable and her stomach will become much wider. Her behavior will also let you know if she is pregnant, she will be busy building a nest for the babies and storing food there.
