I have a hamster who was recently injured about a week ago Sunday. He ran into his wheel while I was trying to get him out to play with him. My mother noticed that his teeth are shorter than before, and he can't close his mouth. Ever since it happened he never ate his usual amount of food. Which is around an infants hand full maybe a teaspoon. We offer him cheese and lettuce and apples. He tries to eat them but he isn't really succesful. He takes tiny bites. Ever since it happened he sleeps all the time. What should I do?!?
You need to take your hamster to a vet immediately. As much as we would like to we cannot give you an accurate assessment of your pets problem without doing a hands on examination. Any answer we could give you would be a guess. It is a possibility that there is a broken tooth somewhere in its mouth, it is not uncommon for teeth to get broken. Or that there is an abscess in one of the cheek pouches.
In the future it would be best to remove wheel and or other toys and cage items before trying to retrieve an uncooperative pet from a cage.
