What are fairies and what do they do?

I see fairies sold in garden stores. What kind of powers do they have. What is the significance of them? What does it mean to believe in fairies?

Fairies have long been the subject of fantasy and debate. Fairies have been photographed and investigated, and fairies have been discounted by sceptics.

Fairies have been said to have special powers, and to inhabit realms such as 'middle earth'. Fairies have been seen in dreams and reality. Fairies have been witnessed by children and adults, both intoxicated and sober.

The key to understanding the truth of the existence of fairies is to consider the common denominator which is prevalent in most tales of fairies, which is the connection between fairies and plant life.

There are many who know that fairies reside 'at the bottom of their garden'. Fairies do reside at the bottom of gardens, every garden.

Just as we, and every living thing has a physical body and a spirit body, so too do plants. The spirit bodies of those in human form have been witnessed on astral travels, and have been labelled when unattached to a physical body as ghosts or spirits. The spirit bodies of plant life have been witnessed on many occasions, sometimes with acceptance, and other times with disbelief. The spirit bodies of plant life, have been labelled Fairies.

Fairies are no different to any other spirits. Fairies exist on the spirit plane, and fairies are occasionally witnessed, more often than we realise, by those of us in a physical existence.

Hmmmmmm. Things that make you go...

Alrighty then, Let me Wow You with my theory. Well it isn't mine alone, there are a number of folk out there who see this connection and feel much the same way I do:

Disclaimer: What I put forth does not suggest that I believe in UFOs, ET, Fairies as magical, supernatural or unexplainable.

Before I go any further I want to make it clear that though I do not know what is being reported by witnesses is, I do believe that they (the witnesses of these things) are seeing something, and are reporting what they see as they see it.

It is strange to me that through out history there have been reports of UFOS, little people, and 'magical' things taking place.

For instance Irish Pagan beliefs tells us of Diana and her Family who suddenly appeared one day with a 'city'. Some of the Stories include Lugh of the Silver hand who lost his hand and he got an artificial hand. Today we are working toward bionics which we can pretty much assume will one day mean that a working mechanical hand will be grafted to an arm and will appear and act like a hand. Technology catching up to magic?

The Sudden appearance of that City is reminiscent of the notion that in the future a New Jerusalem (The City of God) will descend out of the heavens. both are uncannily similar and both suggest that an exterior source is at work.

When we compare the stories of today's UFO visitors we find that they share some of the traits of the Fairy. We see technology today, but before technology it is easy to imagine that a person would strike it up to magic. We also see the similarities between abductions and demon possessions and hauntings. Similarities which are hard to ignore.

If we dig we find that many cultures have their 'little people' all possessing magical ability and all appearing to do things which are similar to the Alien Reports we get now days. Spirit Guides, Angels, and other 'visitors' from somewhere else appearing magically and having magical properties to set them apart from humanity.

Did fairies just disappear? Doubtful. I think what happened is that our species advanced and we now use different concepts and words to express the same phenomena that was being reported in generations past.

Pagans tell us that the Fairies come from another world, another plane of existence. Today our physics and mathematicians have been able to calculate higher dimensions. This does, in a way, suggest that the ancient knowledge knew something that science is uncovering today.

We are aware that life has a special 'force' to it. We also know that ancient systems of belief placed a higher importance on the life force than we do today.

It is easy to make the step from 'Magical' beings to 'technological' beings - both being the same thing, but expressed in different terms. Both being affected by and affecting the same things, but in our new understanding we see things slightly different.

Fairies can easily fall under the Class of 'Supernatural Beings' Which include (but is not limited too): Angels, Demons, Spirits, Aliens, Giants, energy vortexes.

I for one believe that our present day science is ignoring a very real issue and has, due to the stigma attached to the super natural, failed to give it serious consideration and study.

There are those who have attempted to launch true scientific study of all these kinds of phenomena, however, they are met with the same ridicule as a 'trailer dweller' who reports an abduction where no evidence is found to support his/her claims.

I also believe that God(s) and the Religions that attend them spring from the same source. If we take into account that our holy writings are mostly written during a time when technology did not exist and human understanding of the world was simple, and we look for scientific and technological similarities we find that these things can be explained not with 'supernatural' magic but well within the laws of the Universe.

It strikes me that Fairies along with the God's all hold the same kind of power and ability, further, they come in the same kind of package, and that they are all closely related to human experience.

Well The older I get, the more unexplained things just happen around me.

Either I live in denial, or I take an openminded view to things.

Denial is not a nice place to live in so.....

When you think about it - especially the way David explains it - science seems pretty backwards and barbarian! Big Grin

I always believed that someday many, maybe most, ancient beliefs will be explained by science. But of course, science won't use the same terms, or acknowledge the similarity, but will instead claim a "breakthrough." Red Face

I've always thought that Faeries or Fairies, which ever you want to spell them as, represent the child in us. So when we think about believing in Faeries it brings out the child like minds in all of us, and the peaceful, playful child we once was.
I like what Sherasi said though! Smile

I still don't get it.

That made me smile. I have a friend, a very good artist, who draws and paints only fairies. He loves the little buggers, and does some pretty good work. I asked him why all he does is fairies, and he tells me, "I don't get it."

Tinkerbelle from Disney is (represents) a fairy. Maybe that helps. Then there's the tooth fairy, but that one never really impressed me as a fairy.
I think they are supposed to be magical little people who dwell in the forests and gardens of the world, where noone can normally see them, but in the event that one is seen, noone may catch them, although there are many stories of those who have tried. So they maintain their place in the folklore of just about every culture on earth, especially Ireland, living in perfect harmony with nature, never disturbing a thing, (unless they choose to), never leaving a trace, (unless they feel like it), and may even be thought of as helping to cultivate the essence of Mother Earth herself.
Most are good, but with that, nature's balance dictates that some are not, and these fairies, imps, or gremlins, depending on where you were when you heard the tale, have been blamed for scores of "unfortunate events". Some stories from Ireland produced real fear and panic apparently. I found this site about thatFrowncaution: a little bit on the creepy side)

There are lots of interesting stories, it may be fun for you to check it out.
