1 17 oz. can refried beans 1 tbs. butter 1 tbs. finely chopped onion 2 tbs. finely chopped bell pepper 1 tsp. chili powder

12 slices bread 6 tbs. butter (approx.) 6 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, sliced 1 4oz. can whole green chilies, seeded and cut into strips
Melt butter in medium saucepan. Add onion and green pepper. Stir constantly until onion is tender. Stir in refried beans and chili powder. Cook over low heat 10 minutes.

Spread one side of each slice of bread with butter. Heat a large heavy skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place 6 bread slices buttered side down on hot skillet. Place a cheese slice on each. Spread each slice with about 1/3 cup of bean mixture and top with another cheese slice. Arrange green chili strips on cheese. Top with remaining bread, butter side up. Grill on each side until golden brown. Serve warm.
