man when I was a kid my dad was in the navy, but we was poor and we learned to live with what we had.
Heres some of what I call Poor Man's recipes.

a jar of best food mayonaise.
3 hard boiled eggs.
Wonder bread.
a butter knife...

cut up the eggs and mix it right into the jar of Mayo, spread it onto the bread, Egg salad sandwiches.

Couple cans of Tuna.
can of deviled ham.
can of peas.
Mayonaise.
Bread..

MIx it up in a bowl it makes around 6 or 8 sandwiches.

Hey.

Get some good meat from the butcher. None of that hamberger (ground meat) garbage. Amount does not matter. Quality does.

Then go through fridge or cupboard or root cellar. Take whatever. Onions are good with anything. Garlic is good. Besides that, any vegetable.

Brown the meat and onion. This is important. Then add whatever other stuff you happen to have. Clean out the fridge.

Add some liquid. Anything with tomatoes in it is good. Or one bovril cube or envelope in a cup of water. Vegetarian bovril is fine, too.

Add some stuff that tastes fresh. Basil, mint. To this day I have oregano, marjoram, a rosemary bush, growing near my door. Year round I can snip some whenever I want.

Cook it very low heat for a long time.

You know what's weird? Not only do you eat cheap and healthy, but you get a reputation as a good cook!
