How does DAB ,digital audio broadcasting, work as compared to ordinary FM, frequency modulation ? Is it a form of frequency modulation?
What are the benefits? The one obvious one is that a DAB radio carries information which can be shown scrolling on a screen on the set. So, for example, the classical music station BBC Radio 3 shows the title, composer, soloists etc of whatever piece of music it is playing.Another advertised 'benefit' in Britain is that there are stations which broadcast only in DAB. They tend to be minority interest stations or sports stations carrying soccer and cricket games alternative to the games they are broadcasting on their FM output (Methinks that may be a marketing ploy by broadcasters in league with the set manufacturers ! )
