Hi! smile I have a 5 cd changer stereo. It has started to make my cds skip. I wipe them off over and over, and since it does it to any cd, I know it's the stereo. I was wondering if it needs to be cleaned with a cd cleaner disk. If not, then, what do I do?
Thank you. smile

Mine was doing this a few weeks ago. I've never used a cleaner disc, so I don't know if they work. What you need to do is clean the laser as it probably has dust on it. If you feel confident enough, remove the casing of the cd player (after unplugging from the mains). Underneath where a cd would sit, you will see what looks like the top of a small bulb. This is the laser. There are probably cleaners you can buy for this, but I just wiped mine with a damp chamois leather. A damp tissue would probably work just as well. No problems since.

Hello, Andyvmax! Smile I have tried to do what you said, but, there's a problem. The stereo doesn't want to come apart. I have tried to use a can of dust remover (no liquid-just air), but, that didn't do much good, either. I have even tried contacting the company..No help there. Do you, or anyone else on AnswerPool, know anything I can try?
Any help would be appreciated. Smile
Thank you! Smile

Trinity, I've since bought a cleaner disc. This is like a normal CD but with small bristles on the underside. It came as part of a CD cleaner kit I found on e-Bay. You can probably find them in Hi-Fi shops etc as well. It seems to work OK and saves all the hassle of having to dismantle the Hi-Fi every time the laser needs cleaning.
