We listen to recorded books while traveling. Most rental cars now have CD players, so I've checked out books on CD from the library for our next trip. I listened briefly to one book and found a bad disk. Part of it played OK, though. When we get a DVD like that, I wash it with soap and water and it works fine. Is there something I could use in the car when it's not convenient to wash the disk? I wonder about Sight Savers tissue things.

Cindycat, CD's are optical devices which mean they use liight to work. The primary concern in cleaning a CD is that they are not scratched so that the light will be refracted and altered. As long as you are using wipes intended for other optical devices like eyeglass lenses, camera lenses, etc you should be OK using thse on CD's. At this link on the bottom is a product that may be similar to wat you referenced that can be used. http://www.imagingspectrum.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/ccdsupplies.htm?E+scstore

I find first aid alcohol wipes to be quite efficent. But I use a very light touch as to not scratch the CD. I don't know if this would be an approved choice of cleaning, tho.
