I'm not an English teacher(actually not a teacher of any sort!), but I've volunteered to run an English course for a group of 60-80 year old
Chinese people. As far as I understand they have a very basic knowledge already from a 10 hour introductory course. I will run the next 10 hours for them.
I want to make it interesting and a little bit fun for them without patronising them and teaching them like children.
Does anyone have any ideas I could use?
What would be an appropriate way to teach?
How about some music? What songs might they recall from their own younger days?
I know we can't cover a whole lot in 10 hours but I would like them to feel as if they have achieved something by the end.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I once had a class in French in which the instructor divided the class into two teams. The one team had to tell a story in French in sequence. each student telling a sentence or two, until the other team was able to identify the story. It could be a nursery rhyme, fairy tale, or movie scenario that most everyone would be familiar with. It usually produced a lot of laughs. smile wink
