My daughter left a cotton ball soaked in finger polish remover on my veneer table. The spot looks like the solvent ate up part of the veneer. Any ideas out there on how to refinish veneer?

Ohhhh Marian...I can relate...I myself did this as a teen(except it was real wood not just veneer), and then MY teen did it to ME! How cruel is that?

But no, there's pretty much no way to fix this. The solvent in the nail polish remover actually ate away the plastic portions of your veneer.

There are, however, products out there that can cover it. Go to your local Home Depot or hardware store, tell the associate what happened, and they could probably point you to the right product.

There are some that just repair scratches by filling in the scratch with color that will blend in with the rest - however, on something larger than a tiny scratch they don't work so well.

But there are also applications that you can apply which will at least make it so the damage isn't WHITE...you'll always be able to tell that there was damage, but it won't be as stark.

Take a picture of your table, one that shows the color and grain, when you go to the home improvement store...it'll help them match the color.

And if all else fails, you might need a doily, or replace the table.

you can try and locate some veneer that is the same as what you got then cut out a peice from both new and old and replace just that peice. but you got to get it real close so as not to see the cut part when its reinstalled. or you can just reveneer the whole thing. as far as a quick fix i dont think there is one. sorry.
but if your carfull your can get it fixed. Smile
