Does anyone know a quick and easy way to clean blinds. I have a lot of blinds and when I dust them, they seem to need dusting again the next day and it takes hours to do. Any hints?

I use barely damp gloves and just run my hand between the slats but they make a multifingered duster specifically for blinds that does 4 slats at a time.

I have these blind wipes that are a lot like baby wipes only with cleaner on them. They are neither quick nor easy, but they do get the job done -so well, in fact, that I haven't re-done them in months. It takes a while, but I put the History Channel on in the background and have at it. Smile

If they are dirtier then just dusting can help, Mrs. WoW has me clean them in a pan I made using a long narrow cardboard box lined with a piece of plastic from a large garbage bag to hold water. They do sell a plastic try for this but I figure I can save the money for play time.

Soak in a solution of warm water and a little Spic & Span (Tri-sodium Phosphate also works) but not to long. Soak extended and agitate every now and then by lifting them out and putting them back in. Depending on how dirty they are, they made need a little brushing with a soft brush. Rinse with warm water and hang out side to dry.

Do not use this on wooden blinds or any blinds that have parts that can’t be submerged in water. OK with cotton draw cords. The soaking part may warp the wood or damage other parts. I don’t put the top part in the water.

Do it outside in case your pan springs a leak.

I know it takes a little time but the bathroom and kitchen ones really need it once in a while.

I just remembered, my mother once dumped all my blinds in the tub and sprayed the heck out of them with Simple Green, then used the shower sprayer to rinse them.
It worked fairly well, but not as well as the blind wipes. If they're really dirty, they need a physical scrubbing, but if they've been scrubbed before and just need a rinse, the Simple-Green-in-the-shower might do the trick.

I threw all of them out due to dust issues. Wink

The mini-blind cleaner (basically fits between the blinds) didn't always clean around the strings and it is time consuming to do a houseful of blinds.

So when we did have them I took them outside and used the hose on them. I resorted to seasonal cleaning of those things. Sometimes it required a dip in the kiddy pool full of soapy water (kiddy pool for he dog in summer) followed by hanging and hosing rinse and then letting them drip dry. I suggest doing that first on cleaning day.

But, since we leave the windows open most of the year we finally gave blinds up as a bad idea. Now we use linen curtains (similar to bed sheet linen, about 350 thread count) simple rods, hemming and very easy to pull off the rod and toss into the wash machine. A few windows have thicker material, similar to denim, just a tad thinner. And of course sheers for lots of light - all simple rectangular panels, a wide hem at top for rod, all easy to wash. I stay away from faric that is dry clean only.

This looks pretty nifty.

Here's the link.

And on your next major upgrade, try
