Hi, does anyone have a good method for cleaning a stove hood. By turning the motor you can install my hood to vent straight outside,up and outside through the existing opening, or return inside by using filters. The XYZ&^% who installed my hood installed the pipe and outside vent, and turned the motor to blow inside. I didn't use the filters - didn't think I needed to. The guy who installed the new cabinets found the mistake a year later.
The hood has a greasy film that will not go away.
I am afraid to use really strong cleaners - it's only white paint.
Down Power Desolver specifically nixes hoods, Dawn Direct Foam desolves the paint - I tried.
Dawn by itself does very little and Spic and Span doesn't do it either.
Any suggestions?
Thank you! MKS

Have you tried Formula 409? That stuff works wonders.

CitriSolve, available in most hardware stores, works miracles on that horrible half fossilized layer of dust and grease....and smells wonderful, too! Test a spot first to ensure that it won't damage the paint (I've had no problems, but still...)
I use a solution of half CitriSolve and half very warm water, apply with a rag, let it stand about 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how bad the layer is, then use the edge of a credit card to scrape the goo away. Use a rag or scrubbie sponge to wipe away residue.
If it's REALLY badly built up, you may have to do the soak and scrape process twice.
That's why I hang on to the cards that show up with all those "Invitations" to apply for a card, they make great household scrapers.
