I'd appreciate any help/advice on the following problem....

This afternoon our young daughter decided to empty some face cream onto our living room carpet (it's wool). After that, she added some green children's face make-up (also face-cream consistency) onto it and mixed it. We now have a dark brown greasy stain on our light brown carpet.

Anyone have any suggestions for removal?

try sprinkling with some baking soda and let set for a while and see if it absorbs any of the excess oil/grease. If it's already set, you may have more of an issue. One of the things to try next is a dish detergent (something that claims to work for greasy dishes - dawn I think is one of them) - - mix some of the dish detergent and water (about a 1:1 ratio) in a spray bottle - spray onto the stain blot it with a towel (don't use paper towels for this as it will create lint).

continue this until (hopefully) the stain is removed.

Resist the urge to use ammonia or alcohol as it may alter the color of the rug. If the dish detergent doewn't work, you may try the alcohol (after the spot has dried again) - but test first in a spot that is not visible.

The two things you mentioned are oil/grease based, so you definitely want to try something that will break down the greasiness.

Hope this helps

Just get some Cascade after it. Cascade takes all the spots out of my carpet - tough stains - old timers - may need two applications. Just mix a 1/4 cup with a couple teaspoons of water and scrub away. Rinse and blot.

Catty (scrub-a-dub, dub) razz
