I discovered a few minutes ago that I had run out of "SoftScrub", so I substituted my liquid dishwasher detergent (I use Kirkland liquid gel from Costco) and not only did it work- it worked BETTER and rinsed off easier than the SoftScrub- and the price of a 125 ounce bottle of automatic dishwasher liquid is about the same as a 16 or 20 ounce bottle of the other stuff- I'll probably never buy another bottle of liquid scouring cleanser.

Awesome tip S! I would think that even on tough stuff, leaving the liquid sitting for a few minutes would soften up just about anything!

I can just see MrsS's dishwasher contents liquifying and going down the drain, followed by the metal drum lining, until nothing is left but the hose sticking out of the drain!
