No.

They're rodents. They're closeley related to squirrels. They're very smart and adaptable.

All householders' and gardeners' tip books are full of ideas on how to discourage them. The reason why there are so many different ideas is that none of them work.

You could just learn to relax and enjoy them. But don't feed them. You will only attract more and more.

There is no bird-feeder which they cannot outsmart, except those that deliver a painful electric shock. These devices also shock other animals, and are dangerous in wet weather.

If you try to poison them you will harm other animals, not to mention the environment.

If you scare them away, they will climb a tree and sit there and insult you.

Know when you're beat, and don't mess with them.

For inspiration, rent Caddyshack. Watch what happens when Bill Murray tries to outsmart the gopher. They're related, you know. Not Bill Murray and the gopher. The gopher and the chipmunk. Bill Murray's the dumb one.

I could offer many ways of how to get rid of them, by NOT killing them.

The only anti-killing anti-chipmunk removal thing i can think of is the Havaheart box trap which does not kill them...but for three reasons, this concept does not really appeal to me.

Reason One: Chipmunks reproduce too quickly to effectively remove them from your area.

Reason Two: The traps are expensive, if memory serves, its about $11 per trap.

Reason Three: Where would you put them after you catch them? I dont think you'll really be planning on driving out to the end of your road each time you catch one...

Reason Four: ok so i couldnt help it. Its a pain in the butt to keep checking these things! They're also a pain to set. Plus that they dont work all that well anyway.

In suggestion to how to get rid of them otherwise, (not complying with your request), I'd suggest getting some cats, and teaberry gum. But that can get pretty gruesome...

I would say to enjoy the little buggers, and buy your strawberries from the store..

I don't think you should do anything to the chipmunks. Cats will keep them away. But DO NOT buy a cat just to keep them away. Big Grin
