Is this a one-time erratication? Or are you dealing with ongoing smoke? If dealing with ongoing, then in the short term, get a candle that neutralizes smoke (I get these at my local smoke shop)...but for the long term:
If you have a piece of furniture that is permeated with smoke, and you don't smoke now or ever, you will probably NEVER be able to get the smell out to your satisfaction.
Febreeze is ok for covering up the smell. Your best bet might be to get Stanley Steemer there and steam clean your furniture and carpeting.
Oh...and if your home was previously occupied by a heavy smoker, it's IN your walls. Apply two coats of primer and paint, and it may help.
