OK, I've been thinking about asking this for a couple of days, and now there's a commercial and I'm crazy...

Am I the only person in the world who just can't stand the way Shakira sings?

I know she's talented and is just trying to show her range, but to go from one one octave to another and one style to another in the same verse of the song is not only annoying, but at least to me, sounds really, really bad.

In some of her songs it sounds like there's 2 or 3 different people singing. I think it would be more pleasing to listen to if she stuck with one voice.

Anyone?

While I am not a big fan, I don't mind her singing, I quite like the "budgie quality" of it. However, my husband gets totally freaked out by her and even asks me to change the channel when her short advert is on!

truly you aren't the only one who dislikes her singing but might be the Only one "present with their listening sense" when her commercial is on!

No Offense! I think she is a very good entertainer_ I mean though belly dancing had been her previous proffesion, it isn't a valid enough reason not to compliment her! However, apart from the octaves thingee, no one (atleast not I) listens to mere shrieking and screeching!

NO WAY Giz.........I absolutley can't stand to listen to that deep throated, moany style of hers, it irritates the heck out of me. When one of her songs comes on I instantly change the station. she kinda reminds me of Kermit the frog

I have a conflict with shakira. I like what she sings (in spanish, I don´t know why it´s not the same in english... she looses a lot of "power"), I don´t like very much the way she sings and I hate her as a person...

i hate pop with a passion, but i actually like Shakira for what's she's doing. her material is fresh, she's not in the "cookie cutter" category of bands, in fact, has a nice blend of songs, and has a really, really nice ass. that's probably the only reason i like her. in fact, it is my life duty to please that booty ;-)

Well, I think IM the only one that loves the way she sings. Well, on her CD anyway. Her "Laundry Service" album is one of my all time pop favorites. And she has very good lyrics, which I believe she writes herself. The Pepsi commercial is an entirely different story. Before I bought her album I used to watch that commercial and make fun of it because she did truly sound bad. Then it stopped going on rotaion for a while then when I saw it again I recognized her as Shakira, it was weird because she sounds really good on her album.

Lucy, I don't know what you mean when you say you hate her as a person, unless you personally know her. She seems like a pretty nice person on her TV apperances and Diary specials or whatever. I can't see what you would have against her.

Yelena. I have known Shakira since her first album and many things of what she says is pure bluff. I feel she uses many words or concepts that she doesn´t even underdstand but make her sound like she knows. For example in a song called "No creo" she says no creo en Jean Paul Sartre, and other writers... I hate the fact that she messes with writters that she most probably has never read. If she had she wouldn´t put them in a pop song. Plus, in the song objection she says it´s neurotic AND psychotic... that´s impossible. No one or nothing can be both at the same time. I guess it´s not valid, but I don´t like the things she says...

I purchased her album, Laundry Service, about 6-7 months ago. In that time, I have listened to it maybe a total of 3 times.

I orignally bought it for her song 'Whenever Wherever' or however it is titled.

I was looking though my CD's in my ar the other day and came across Shakira's. I thought hmmm...I haven't listened to that one in quite a long time. So I put it in my CD player. I put on track #3, the one I really liked, and started listening.

I realized that the more I listened, the more I recollected why I stopped listening to it. At first you are lured with the unusual yet catchy music. Then she starts singing. You enjoy it until you realize, you can't even understand 99.999% of the words. What is she saying? I cannot understand it!

Of course then I changed it too track #2, 'Underneath your Clothes'. Akk Akk Akk Her voice!! It's irritating!! !! It's aggrivating!! It's It's Annoying
