Not so much "in" as "around" and it;s often referred to as the "rim of fire around the Pacific". A large number of volcanoes and the locations of frequent powerful earthquakes circle the periphery of the Pacific Ocean. The Cascades of the US Pacific Northwest are a part of this system, the Aleutian Islands, the Kurile Islands, the Japanese archipelago, New Zealand, and so forth are all the locations of such activity.
