JOHNNY VELO..HERES ONE FOR YOU..Granted , there are no roads to Nome, and none to Juneau, but was wondering; Is there a Ferry service from Haines to Juneau.??? If so, do many people (tourist) use it ? ( An Inquirer reader wants to know )...

Hiya, Donrent, yes,yes,yes, the ferry runs from Juneau to Haines to Skagway and south to Petersburg, Wrangell and to some of the outlaying towns like Kake, and a couple more whose names escape me at the moment. And how many people use them, let me tell you, we locals have a hard time getting to use it during the tourist season. Seems like the travel agencies buy blocks of reservations for tourists, which I don't blame them for doing. But really , the ferries are always full. They carry passengers with their cars and campers and people by themselves. If I want to go to Haines in the summer, I have to book a reservation the year before. Like I told you in the e-mail, I just got home from Seattle and am a little tired. I'll read this again tomorrow and see what else you need.
