I;m not certain about the "no information" part, but some tropical jungle areas are rather inaccessable. Scientific American ran an article a couple of years ago about the discovery, via satellite, of a road system in parts of Central America, dating back to the Mayan period, but completely unknown until it jumped out at the examiners of data returned from satellite borne side-looking radar. Ubar (or "many-columned Iram") in the Empty Quarter of the Arabian desert was discovered the same way, radar picking up the roads to it where they were exposed on the surface. The city itself was buried under sand dunes, so not strictly on the surface.
