The other night there was a storm on our area rained heavy for hours High winds. Nothing unusual in that.
Except something went over our house. Aircraft? We live right under several fight paths and on a clear day there are several aircraft minimum, flying in all directions at any time of the day. So We hear all sorts of engines, see all sorts.
But work this out at 4 o'clock in the Afternoon 100% Cloud cover. Street lights have just come on,
I hear this deep rumbling coming up from the SW heading across our house going NE peek out hoping to catch a glimpse...Thought I would hear its engine when it passed but NO it went past very slowly
Took almost 5 minutes to go past!! Speed I'd say 50 MPH! Surely no jet can stay up at that speed!! Eek
And ODD thing 2. It must have been massive because the sound spread across a wide part of the sky Roll Eyes
Allowing for the Low cloud to magnify the sounds. But all I heard was the wind on the surface of what ever it was.

Also. A few years ago we supposedly had a small tornado in our town but I challenge that I think it was the ground effect of a Passing UFO.
Evidence. The trail was a few miles long in a straight line (weather was showery) Yet the disruption was in a several hundred feet swathe
Again we had the rumble but It was there and Gone with damage left behind (at very high speed)
If it was a tornado it would surely take its time? Confused
Coincidence it also happened at Sunset?! Roll EyesHeading was West to East

Re: Your tornado

You just described classic tornado behavior. Some tornadoes leave a very narrow groundprint of the center, others leave a very wide one. If an objest is even close to the center of a tornado, it could be severely damaged. The powerful winds are not just in the funnel, they surround the funnel. They may even form a second funnel, smaller than the first.

The following are facts about tornadoes:

* They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.
* They may appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms in the funnel.
* The average tornado moves Southwest to Northeast, but tornadoes have been known to move in any direction.
* The average forward speed of a tornado is 30 MPH, but may vary from stationary to 70 MPH.
* Tornadoes can accompany tropical storms and hurricanes as they move onto land.
* Waterspouts are tornadoes that form over water.
* Tornadoes are most frequently reported east of the Rocky Mountains during spring and summer months.
* Peak tornado season in the southern states is March through May; in the northern states, it is late spring through early summer.
* Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., but can occur at any time.

Maybe those who make the crop circles got frustrated over the weather and hovered over your house for lack of other mischief to accomplish.

Bedstor we get a reported c 35 tornadoes a year in Britain but researchers at the University of Leeds have said that the true figure is c100, most not being reported as such(including yours Smile) The last 'big' one was in Birmingham in 2005 but it doesn't compare with those they may get in Birmingham, Alabama!

Didn't find a figure for crop circles or UFOs though .

I was really surprised when I read DG's post. I had never heard of tornados in the UK. I don't remember them ever being talked about. Hurricanes yes, but never tornados.
Here in Ontario we get tornados during the summer months, and the children regularly have tornado drills at school.
Bedstor, if it was a UFO, be thankful you weren't abducted and probed. Eek
