Well, my husband's father was in the airforce and according to a fellow airforce buddy of his who was stationed in Area 51, there WAS something being closely guarded there.

I was convinced that it was a weather balloon until a TV show on Discovery channel where the photo of the military man near the balloon was holding a telex message. It was through enhancements and today's technology that the message was mostly deciphered.
http://www.abcfield.force9.co.uk/rpit/I would suggest a search of "Roswell Photo Interpretation Team" to get more information.
This show said that words like 'Disk' and 'bodies' are part of the text.
If this is the case, then someone told a lie.

Oh, I'm sure there's more to it than we the general public are aware of. Whether it is really important to our daily lives is questionable.

I believe there are many things that the government conceals from the general public, including the Rosewell incident. I think there are things that have been discovered and created that would cause widespread panic if we were aware of them. Sometimes not knowing can be a good thing. Confused

I would like to know whatever is going on in the world I live in though. It is sort of our right. We live here too, along with the government officals.

I've thought that they were possibly hiding something but it wasn't anything extra-terrestrial. More likely something we were doing in stealth mode that got out of hand and could be embarrassing if widely known, or jeapordize security. In fact, if that is the case, they would love for people to jump to conclusions about the whole UFO bit... because it would point the finger away from the more pedestrian reason. Sort of like disinformation to a gullible public that desperately wants to believe in supernatural or other-worldly explanations for things, rather than impugn the integrity of the USA.
At least that's what my space chums from the planet XVqTTyEYTh tell me. Smile

If Roswell was a crashed alien spacecraft, why the heck would they keep it from us? I'm sure we could all handle it, you know, when Africa was discovered by Europeans, the governments of the day didn't keep it a secret that it was inhabited for fear of freaking out the average man-in-the-street and they handled it.

Blam, your analogy doesn't hold. With the possible exception of very early history, Europeans were never confronted by an obviously superior technology in Africa, whereas an alien spacecrafteither in 1947 or now, would definitely signal that our technology was woefully decades, if not centuries, behind the builders of such a craft.
This is not to be construed as any type of proof of anything, certainly not my beliefs. I was just pointing out that your analogy regarding reasons why the Roswell incident isn't an alien craft doesn't hold true.

OK DG, I agree, but the thought that they are well in advance of us technologically has always been there for us from the fact that it would be they who discovered us. I know we could handle it, in fact I would be delighted! Just imagine all the stuff we could learn from them.
What gives 'the chosen few' the right to exclusivity?

What crashed was a Top Secret Project Mogul Balloon designed as a spy platform to monitor possible Soviet nuclear detonations with the use of low-frequency acoustic microphones placed at high altitudes. This was not a weather balloon. Project Moguls were more than 600 feet long, and Top Secret. Project Mogul was not declassified until sometime around the early 1990s. In June and early July 1947, several flights were launched from Alamogordo Army Air Field in New Mexico.
The wind patterns for the days before and of the day of the crash are known. Those patterns perfectly match Project Mogul Flight Number 4 taking it from its launch site to an area near the eventual crash site. Flight 4 was tracked to within only 17 miles from the location of the debris field on the Foster ranch before it was lost.
The debris found - balsa wood, rubber, metallic paper and tape- (you would think intergalllatic spaceships would be made of something more substantial!) matches perfectly with a Project Mogul balloons.
There was absolutely no increase in any sort of military or governmental communications (or any mobilizations of any sort) during or after the event, as would be expected if an actual alien spacecraft actually crashed on Earth. The President’s schedule didn’t change one bit from his normal planned activities on the day of - or in the days following - the crash.
A short synopsis of what really happenedEverything you could ever want to know about Project Mogul balloons.A great book about the whole subject covering nearly everything involved. This is the book to read if you are interested in this subject.**************************************************

You think you could handle it, Blam, but that's not your decision to make for everyone else. Certainly a person could handle it, but people as a whole are dumb, panicky and stupid. And besides, how would it really change your life?

I KNOW I could handle it. How would it change my life? I'm sure it would change everybody's life, how great would it be to have all this knowledge of outer-space, the thirst for knowledge on that subject alone has fascinated mankind since the begining of time. The technology, "OH! the technology!" Just think, Inter-planetry football, golf, olympics. Please, just use your imagination.

Check out the movie, "Roswell". And, yes, it really happened!
Is it just a coincidence that human technology took leaps and bounds beginning in 1947, with the invention of the transistor, by a U.S. government lab? Our technology has advanced further and faster in the past 60 years than it has in all of human history. Also just a coincidence? The C.I.A. was also 'coincidentally' formed in 1947. Check out "Project Blue Book" for some interesting reading on the subject.
