If there was life beyond Earth, would you really want to know?

Absofrickenlutely. It would only confirm my belief anyway.

I would, yes, however it would be an exercize in futility not being able to meet them, learn about them or simply be involved with that "larger" universe.

I firmly believe that we are not the only intelligent life in the universe....because the universe is infinite and if only one planet in that entire space contained intelligent life? Well, that would be unthinkable.

I'm just hoping that if we are contacted in our lifetime by beings from another area of the universe, that it will be a friendly, not a hostile meeting.

I have no doubt that there is intelligent life out there! And if they have tried to contact us, I want to know about it.

I don't think that the world would be able to handle the news though.

To suddenly find out that we aren't alone... It would change our way of life and it would seriously challenge religion.

So if there's life out there, I can see why the information would be kept from us. Human nature speaks for it's self. It would be chaos around the world.

I wonder though, what regions on Earth would be most likely to accept the news stories about life on other planets? Would it be North Americans and Europeans? Who else?

Actually Bill, the people, the normal joe blow working stiffs would greet ET with open arms.

It's Governments which would be scared to wet pants and would make a big fuss over the whole matter.

People, in general, are accepting. Most of the world has been immersed in the notion of there being ET via TV, movies, stories.

Governments are paranoid and would assume the worse if Aliens came.

As for the Question:

I already know there is life beyond earth. I am content with that.

Sure, I'd want to know, but I don't think confirmation of what I already believe would affect the day-to-day of my existence all that much -unless, of course, they came to visit like in "Independence Day"...

I don't think religion would be challenged by this revelation, they'd just change tack, the way they did when it was once and for all proved that the Earth is NOT the center of the Universe and man really did evolve from ape-like beings.

if the universe is as vast as scientists say it is. I'm positive there is other inteligent life out there.
I would love to meet and greet them. I have many questions to ask to the also.

the universe appears to be forever huge.
I'm sure there are other forms of life out there. I for one would love to meet and greet other forms of life.
Mars looks like at one point it had life on it.
It's such a big universe for us to just be alone ya know.
I doubt we'll get to see this in our lifetime, but it would be a great thing to know for a fact that there is other life around. Which I'm positive there is.

Fascinating question! I'm not 100% convinced either way about life beyond Earth, but if there was, I'd want to know all about any other civilizations.

Here's my 2 cents.....

I don't think there is life beyond earth, and I really don't believe we evolved from apes (if that were true, why are there still apes? Only some evolve?)

If there were life beyond earth (because I am OCCASIONALLY wrong...lol) I wouldn't wanna know. I am very happy in my own little microcosm (sp?)

The apes have evolved too Shelster, they've just evolved in a differant way like Tapirs and Rhinos.

Doesn't it dawn on the doubters how ridiculous it is to believe that in ALL the universe (the size of which is beyond our comprehention) in all the countless planets in countless solar systems in countless galaxies, that this little planet Earth, is the ONLY place where life exists? It's absolutely ludicrous, it really is. Do you laugh at 'The Flat Earth Society'? because you're in the same boat.

Just see "The Matrix" did you?
Actually, that description wouldn't really affect me that much. So, my life isn't real? Well, at least I'm having fun! Smile
