Como of course, yes, Como. I grew up in the UK and watched his TV shows with my parents as they caught those falling stars every week. Dream along with me, he said, and they did, for this was their musical era while mine, the sixties and early seventies, was just dawning. My favourite Como songs are his version of Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times" in 1973 and his recording of the Bacharach/Davis title "Magic Moments" in 1958. Effortless, and with a perfect "ear" for the musicians who were accompanying him, he could, at his best, take you into a song and make you live the whole heart-ache with him. I have a fine early-eighties live recording of him singing Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" for example. How though, do we remember him today? For his late fifties classics or as the "Sing for me, Mister C" TV man?

I love Perry Como, what a smooth, beautiful voice. I remember him today for ALL his music really. I can't say I prefer his earlier classics or his later stuff. For me, the guy was what he was and that was one of the greats. You've got good taste there Colin! Sounds like you are from the same era as me too (b.1956)

I guess I like his early 'easy listening' smooth classics -- & I remember his hit tv variety show in the 1950s.

SCTV did a parody of him -- wearing a sweater, of course -- where he kept falling asleep while singing. Big Grin
