Please: this has been bugging me for months. What is the song by a (70's?) rock/country band about a rock star who bought a new expensive car (Cadillac?) but couldn't drive it because he lost his license? He's a rock star. Has all the girls he wants. It's humorous and country/folksy. Sounded like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to me, but can't find it in the discography. Help!

Hi James Welcome to Answerpool

I did a search and I found this Tune ...Its by a singer not a Band Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good

This verse springs out-
quote:
My Maserati does 185
I lost my license now I don't drive
I have a limo ride in the back
I lock the doors in case I'm attacked

From www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=5038

There's also Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rolling Stone"... no mention of a lost driver's lisence, but there is reference to "My poor ol' gray haired Daddy driving my limosine" and a VERY country rock/Folk sound-

We got a lot of little teenage blue-eyed groupies
Who do anything we say
We got a genuine Indian guru
He's teachin' us a better way
We got all the friends that money can buy
So we never have to be alone
And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

I do not know the Doctor Hook song you mention, MrsS, but they are an excellent band. I think you are right, Bedstor, however.

There is a lot of depth in the lyrics of the Joe Walsh song, is there not? I have always had a lot of affection for 'Life's Been Good', because for all the apparent contentment and humour of the singer, he seems not yet to have found real happiness. A very well-crafted song, in my opinion.

The music is excellent also, and South's voice complements beautifully.

I love Joe Walsh - and the rest of 'his' band too - the memories go on and on. I saw them all years ago at the Rainbow Theatre in London. Their very first trip to London and a little bit special.

And Dr Hook are up there too, though on a diferent ranking scale as far as style and delivery are concerned. They've just released a 'Greatest Hits' compilation - yes, yet another one, there are so many now, I know -along with DVD footage as well, which does add to the appeal. All the old songs are there - The Ballad of Lucy Jordan, Sylvia's Mother, When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman, Sexy Eyes, On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone which is where I came in, I know).
Did I buy it? Yes, of couse I did. It arrived yesterday.
