The aphid is not only born pregnant, it is pregnant without the benefit of sex. Aphids have the ability to reproduce through parthenogenesis (female cloning). Females give live birth to pregnant females. This is because they are not born until the aphid has reached the adult stage. Each new female is capable of producing 50-100 young aphids that become reproductive within 7-10 days. Their development may begin before she is born while she is still in the ducts of the grandparental generation.
