I still like to go to games at my old high school. Some people in the surrounding neighborhoods, who never went there and who never had kids there, also go to the games.

Does anyone else here like to go to games at their local high school?

I did a couple of years ago, when my nephew sort of played on the high school varsity basketball team. Nowadays, I spend my time watching high school ball at the State Tournament in Spokane, WA. This basketball tournament is the equivalent of the NCAA's March Madness, only all the games are under one roof, the arena in Spokane. It's a 16 team, double elimination tournament, and the boys and girls play at the same time, on courts laid end-to-end and separated by a black curtain. There's no politics involved here--all the teams win their way to the tournament through qualifying tournaments, and first-round matchups are literally determined, with certain rules in place, by drawing the teams from a hat. This particular tournament is for the smallest classification of teams in Washington State--limited to an enrollment of 150 or below in the top three high school grades. Small-school basketball here in Washington has a long and rich history, and every year the merchants in the Spokane area look forward to the first week in March, when the tournament is played, and to the millions of dollars it pumps into the local economy.

I enjoy taking my 10 year old son to football games at my old school. We try to get to 2 or 3 home games and at least one road game each fall. I usually pick the most distant road game, and we make an evening of it. Mickey Dee's before the game, and usually some pizza or other munchies after it.

No, I refuse to support highschool sports... School district cares more about sports than my education. I feel as though I am not reaching my fullest potential, but how can I when teachers are more concerned with passing the football players??

Yes, we support our local HS football team. There's nothing like football Friday! When my kids were in HS we attended all of the soccer, football and softball games to support them and still find time to go to some eventhough the kids are long gone from HS. I also try to get back to my home town once in a while and support MY old HS football team. Sure does bring back a lot of memories smile

I officiated high school sports for 29 years. I still attend baseball, football, basketball, softball and volleyball games. I love high school sports. There is nothing to compare to a Friday night football game between two intense rivals.

I miss not being on the court or field, and being just a spectator.

I usually go up to the local rink in Yonkers(just north of the bronx) There's always a game between two high schools. I usually don't root for anyone, I just sit, watch and kick myself for not playing more at that age. frown

I have taken my kids to the games over the years. Now my son is a Freshman in high school. He's playing football and will be playing basketball when the season comes. So I am really enjoying watching his games.
