There is a saying something like the victors of war get to write the history. Do you think the Civil War (US) history you learned is accurate?

Regarding the Civil War in particular, I DO think the history is accurate. Incredibly accurate, actually. Because of the type of government the United States has, the viewpoints of those fighting on the Confederacy's side of the war is widely available to everyone that cares to know it. It certainly isn't hidden, so far as all of my extensive research on the matter has determined.

In a free country, history is rewritten every decade. Here in the US, we have some strong disciplines in research, so I trust what I read and what I was taught. I feel optimistic.

Accurate, yes. Complete, no. There is a lot of undiscovered history, not just about the Civil War, but many other things in storage all over the country. Public records of significance that are sitting, waiting to be discovered.

Both sides seem to agree on most of the factual information. Shelby Foote is certainly "of" the south and wrote one of the best history series - which doesn't disagree.
If the south hates Sherman, and I'm not certain they do since he loved them, that is emotional and probably in conflict with the north's feeling. Same for Jackson, Lee, Grant, Lincoln, etc.
So, yes, I believe what I've learned about that war.
