Can someone refresh my memory about the battle of Hastings and it's place in European History? The name sticks in my mind after 20+ years, but I have no details left in the old gray matter.
Thanks for any help you can give me!! smile

The Norman (meaning originally Viking) French won the Battle of Hastings on October 14, 1066, and conquered England. The English language eventually adopted thousands of French (and more Latin) words, giving us cow vs. beef, king/royal/regal, and many of our legal and political terms.
