Leon Rosselson's song "World Turned Upside Down" has these lyrics "In 1649 to St. George's Hill A ragged band they called the Diggers came to show the people's will. They defied the landlords; they defined the laws. They were the dispossessed reclaiming what was theirs." I am sure this song is based on a true event.Does anyone know who "The Diggers" were and the story behind them?
Thanks for that 'fuse, for some reason i always assumed it was about the Irish famine.I pride myself on my knowledge of english history, but i have to admit i had never heard of them before. Viv.
Coldfuse, I realise this is disgracefully off-topic, but I'm a fan of Billy Bragg. I'm curious to know - did you just find this site on a search engine, or is he well known in America too?
