Although Italy was a member of the Triple Alliance it never entered the war as an ally of the Central Powers. Instead it took a wait and see position until 4/26/15 when it entered as an ally of the Triple Entente. Its participation was totally ineffectual and ended in disaster for the country both during the war and at the Treaty of Versailles

Nobody likes to change their minds quite like the Italians (WW1, WW2...). Not an ally you can really rely on, are they? ;-)
